Our mission is to build healthier communities with young people. Together, we create education and digital opportunities for peers to share the tools and resources young people need to make healthy decisions.
The youth substance use, mental and sexual health crises disproportionately affect Black, Latine, Indigenous, POC, queer & trans youth. At Peer Health Exchange, we believe in a world where every young person has full access to a healthy, happy life.
In 1999, six Yale undergraduates began teaching health workshops in New Haven public schools at the request of young people in order to fill the gap left by an underfunded, understaffed district health program with the goal to advance health equity and improve health outcomes for youth. In 2003, the founding members of the group established Peer Health Exchange to replicate this successful program in other communities with unmet health education needs. Today, we are the only organization ensuring that every element of our work is informed by young people through coalition advocacy, youth-centered design, and peer education to drive meaningful change in service of health equity. PHE provides over 600,000+ young people, in classrooms and on our digital platform, with inclusive and affirming educational resources supporting identity, mental and sexual health. We place high commitment to equity, in order to create a diverse and supportive working environment to attract and retain staff and leadership from diverse backgrounds, particularly those that mirror the backgrounds of young people we serve as championed by our Founder.
Help Peer Health Exchange empower young people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to make healthy decisions. Peer Health Exchange is a registered 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization with Tax ID 56-2374305. Please read our Fund Use Statement.
